{thirty days of thanks} five senses

i'm randomly reminded at times what a blessing it is that i have use of all five of my senses - as much as i {unintentionally} take them for granted, i simply can't imagine life without them.

sight
i'm so thankful for the ability to observe my world. take pictures. design for a living. go to the movies. find inspiration in a sunrise.
sound
i'm thankful for the sound of ocean waves crashing to the shore. the voices of my husband, my friends, my family. for music. forest noises. for romance languages and charming accents.
taste
i'm thankful for my morning coffee and my afternoon tea. street food and fresh farmer's market produce. flavors and palettes in other cities and foreign countries. pumpkin-flavored everything. cheese.
smell
i'm thankful for the smell of freshly cut grass. coffee {again}. campfires and christmas cookies. my husband. and the magical way that scent can instantly transport you to another time and place.
touch
i'm thankful for sand in my toes and for cool dewy grass in the early morning. warm purring cats on my lap. chunky handmade scarves and hats. massages. bear hugs.

{thirty days of thanks} family

family. it means so many different things to so many different people {including myself}. i am blessed with many loving versions of family: my immediate family, my in-laws, my extended family, my friends and my friends' families. i'm thankful for them all. they support me and encourage me and love me unconditionally. they offer kindness and sympathy and advice and help without judgment. they sacrifice and compromise so that i might have opportunities. they provide food and laughter and warmth and hugs. wherever they are is home to me.

{thirty days of thanks} daylight savings

hooray for daylight savings!
i got to stay up late saturday night with friends, sleep for a full eight hours and not have a minute of my sunday wasted. and it wasn't even painfully dark when i went to work out at 6am this morning {just really really cold}! i know it gets dark a little earlier, but that'll just make it easier for me to justify going to bed at 8pm...

{thirty days of thanks} mountains

i am deeply, madly, ridiculously in love with mountains.
they fascinate and astound me. they're full of life and magic. stunning at sunrise. beautiful at sunset. amazing in the middle of the day. they're ancient. majestic. they've been here far longer than us and they'll be here long after we're gone. they are enormous. they instantly put me in my place. remind me how small i am. how small my problems are. and how lucky i am to be here on this tiny planet for this tiny moment.

{thirty days of thanks} laundry

i never in a million years thought i'd be writing about how thankful i am to be doing laundry, but our 20-year-old washing machine broke on monday, and the dirty clothes have been piling up ever since. on tuesday we bought a fancy new one, and this morning it was delivered!

so now i am thankful. thankful for clean towels. thankful for not having to wash my clothes at the laundromat in the freezing cold. thankful that we had the means to buy a new {super efficient!} washer without it breaking us. and certainly thankful to the two strong men that carried it upstairs to our second floor apartment and hauled away the dinosaur.

{thirty days of thanks} happy cats

our cats are happy cats. the kind that remind you to appreciate the little things: sunshine, small treats, warm blankets, cuddles. we should all be so lucky.

{thirty days of thanks} snow family

it started snowing again last night - there were several inches on the ground before bed time! this morning we went out to check the mail and play a little bit in the snow!

today i am thankful for fluffy pretty snow that sparkles when the sun comes out and for the fact that we are able to play in it together because we both work from home {oh and for our two little snow kitties!}.

{thirty days of thanks} life is beautiful

it's officially november, and that means thanksgiving is right around the corner. i try to remember to keep an attitude of gratitude at all times, but i certainly haven't mastered it yet, so for the month of november i'm going to try and post one thing every day that i am thankful for... because life really is beautiful, and i am so incredibly blessed to have someone to walk through this crazy world with me.

let's go drifting, through the trees
let's go sailing, on the sea
let's go dancing, on the juke joint floor
and leave our troubles all behind, and have a party

i get crazy, so afraid
that i might lose you, one fine day
and i'll be nothing but a tired old man
and i don't wanna be without you, at the party

so easily forgotten, are the most important things
is that i love you, i do
and i want to spend my days and nights
walking through this crazy world with you

cuz life is beautiful
life is wonderous
every star above is shining just for us
life is beautiful, on a stormy night
somewhere in the world the sun is shining bright

{homebody} happy halloween

we've never waited this long to carve our pumpkin, but on halloween night, after giving up on getting any trick-or-treaters, we finally created our scary black cat jack-o-lantern. then we cuddled up on the couch and watched a super-scary movie. while eating too much candy. because that's what you do on halloween.
