{local love} the denver aquarium

on saturday we were supposed to go skiing with some friends {and by we were supposed to go skiing i mean A was going to ski and i was going to sip cocoa in the lodge of course}...

anyway those plans fell through and so A took me on a surprise date instead - to the aquarium!  if you know me, you know i live for aquariums and other such "kids'" stuff, so this was absolutely the perfect date. and there were FOUR otters. four!!! also, a tiger, seahorses, jellyfish, sharks, and a mermaid show....

{exciting news} we bought a house!

it's a sweet little 1935 bungalow in old town louisville with tons of charm and a peach tree in the back yard and we couldn't be happier!
here are some pics from the listing website {sorry for the poor quality; don't worry i'm sure there will be plenty more to come}!

{local love} a concert at red rocks

for our anniversary, even though he wasn't supposed to get me anything and i might be a little bit mad about that, A bought me tickets to see my favorite childhood band {don't judge me!} at red rocks...
...and now i'm pretty sure i'll never be able to see a concert anywhere else.

{plus, that's one more thing we can check off the bucket list!}

{bucket list} rocky mountain national park

A and i just got back from a magical day trip to rocky mountain national park {ps it's national park week!}. it's about an hour and a half from where we live, which is kind of amazing. we hiked three miles to the top of deer mountain {10,013 feet} and made a sweet new chipmunk friend {we named him bobby}. when we got back down we spent the afternoon in downtown estes park - we ate estes park's best burger, got candy from the old fashioned candy shop, and searched for silly treasures at the five-and-dime {i have a serious weakness for five-and-dimes}. oh, and we crossed one more thing off of the bucket list!

{local love} the hill

as promised, we got out of our pajamas today and headed out in search of food. our search took us to the hill - and the sink {one of A's last-minute additions to the bucket list involved going to every restaurant ever featured on diners, drive-ins, and dives}. we {thankfully} shared a chef's special burger and fries and i must say, it was ridiculously good. the ambience was tough to beat, too: dark and divey with crazy art all over the walls and patrons' autographs on the low ceilings.
after lunch we went for a stroll around cu campus, admiring the pretty buildings and breathtaking mountain views {and quietly cursing ourselves for not going school there}.

{local love} the denver zoo

i don't know if you know this about me or not, but i freaking love zoos. so it's actually kind of surprising that we haven't made it to the denver zoo until now. we went this afternoon and it was amazing - the zoo was completely deserted. it was just us and the animals {and okay maybe like five other people but that's it}. it was so...intimate. we saw lions eating lunch, tigers posing for pictures, hyenas napping, the cutest arctic fox ever, a monkey eating snow, grizzly bears impatiently awaiting dinnertime. there was only one otter but that's okay because there was totally a polar bear.

p.s. we can officially cross this off of our colorado bucket list!

{stateside} day one in dc: eastern market and fedex field

as i mentioned before, A and i headed to our nation's capital {and my birthplace} for thanksgiving... we flew into reagan national on saturday afternoon and spent a relaxing evening with my parents at the condo we rented for the week {yummy home-cooked meals courtesy of my mom!}.

sunday was our first full day in dc. we scoped out the eastern market that morning for breakfast hot dogs and some sweet flea market shopping...

as midday approached, we took the metro to fedex field for our very first redskins home game! unfortunately we lost, but it was a really good game and a priceless experience {oh, and something we can cross off of our bucket list!}.

we spent the rest of the evening pouting in our adorable rental on capitol hill and went to bed early {i mean, how could we resist that comfy bed?}.

{bucket list} birth of the bucket list

this afternoon, A decided that we should write a bucket list. we started with a colorado bucket list, since we are so much closer to all sorts of new fun places now, and after three months here we've barely even scratched the surface!
naturally that led to a life bucket list - things we want to do and places we want to go {mostly places we want to go...}.
some are a little more of a reach than others {helicopter to space?}, some are admittedly misspelled {i'll blame A for that}, and i'm sure some will be added or amended along the way, but we're excited to start crossing things off our bucket lists - after all, that's the best part of list-making!
